NaNoWriMo 2015 – Day 12 Progress

Today was the first day I’ve had off in a long time.  I spent several hours thinking through my story, coming up with new plot points and plot twists.  I also spent some time revising, meaning I cut nearly 1700 words from the story, to be replaced with a different type of accident (car crash instead of a bike accident).  So my total word count isn’t up all that much from yesterday, but I feel a lot better about where I’m at in the story.

I have a clear conflict (several in fact):

  • Gavin and Amy are attracted to each other, but an event in her past keeps her from a more physical relationship
  • Gavin’s mother dislikes Amy on site, and hires a PI to investigate her background, to dig up dirt on her
  • Amy has a secret which will continue to put her in conflict with Gavin
  • The police in Texas are looking for Amy, and they contact Gavin for help

I’m excited about the upcoming scenes in the book and how it will play out.  I’ve also gotten over my shyness about telling my husband what’s in the book.  Seriously, for the first few days of writing, all I would tell him “it’s a train wreck honey, but I’m doing it for the practice.”

Now we talk about plot points, and while he may raise an eyebrow or scoff at some of my ideas, it’s kind of fun telling him what’s coming up next.

Total word count for today stands at 21,617.
